When is the Best Time to Visit Dominica?
Dry season versus rainy season, hurricane window, festival calendar — find the right month for your Dominica trip.
When to Visit Dominica
Dominica enjoys a tropical climate year-round, but timing your visit well makes a real difference for hiking, diving and festivals.
Dry season — December to April
The most popular window. Trails are firmer, rivers safer to cross, and the seas calmer for diving and whale watching. Daytime temperatures average 25–30 °C with low humidity and the famous Caribbean light. Book accommodation early; this is also high season for cruise visitors.
Shoulder seasons — May and November
Excellent value. You still get plenty of sun, prices drop, and the rainforest is at its lush best after early showers. Whale-watching tours run reliably from November.
Rainy season — June to October
Heavy showers are common but rarely all-day. Hurricane season peaks August–October; serious storms are rare but possible — track forecasts and pick refundable bookings. Waterfalls are at their most spectacular and trails are quiet.
Festival calendar
- World Creole Music Festival — late October
- Independence & Creole heritage celebrations — November
- Carnival (Mas Domnik) — February or March
- DiveFest — July
Quick recommendation
For a first trip combining hikes, beaches and diving, aim for late January to mid-March. For festivals and culture, target late October to early November.
