Remote Dominica is a tourism platform operated from Roseau, Dominica. We help travelers explore the island through trusted local experts, including guides, drivers, tour operators, and accommodation partners across the Commonwealth of Dominica.

2. What Information We Collect

We may collect the following types of information:

Account information

Your name, email address, password, and optionally your WhatsApp number.

Trip profile information

Information you provide to help us understand your travel plans and preferences, such as travel dates, group size, interests, adventure level, accommodation status, budget preference, and whether you have opted in to receive marketing communications.

Booking information

Information related to your requests, proposals, confirmed bookings, and payment records.

Saved content and planning data

This includes saved spots, saved experiences, favorites, and trip planner content.

Usage data

Information about how you use the platform, such as pages visited, spots viewed, device type, and browser type. For users who are not logged in, some browsing activity may also be stored locally in the browser through localStorage to improve the experience.

Payment information

Payments are processed by Stripe. We do not store your credit card details. We may store Stripe payment intent IDs and transaction amounts for booking and record-keeping purposes.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

  • create and manage your account
  • personalize your experience on the platform
  • match you with relevant local experts based on your trip profile and interests
  • process booking requests, confirmations, and payments
  • save your favorites, trip plans, and preferences
  • send you transactional emails, such as confirmations, password resets, and booking-related notifications
  • send you marketing communications, offers, trip suggestions, and relevant recommendations if you have opted in
  • recommend accommodation, transport, and other relevant services based on your trip profile
  • improve the platform through internal analysis and anonymized usage insights
  • verify operator credentials and maintain trust and safety on the platform

4. Who We Share Your Information With

We only share your information where necessary to operate the platform and provide our services.

Local experts and partners

When you submit a request or confirm a booking, the relevant operator or partner may receive the information needed to handle your request, such as your name, trip details, and, where applicable, your contact information. Contact details such as your email address and WhatsApp number are only shared after you confirm a booking or accept a proposal.

Service providers

We use trusted third-party providers to operate parts of the platform, including:

  • Stripe, for payment processing
  • Resend, for transactional and marketing email delivery
  • Supabase, for authentication and database hosting

These providers only receive the information necessary for their role in delivering the service.

We do not sell your personal information. We do not share your personal data with advertisers.

5. Cookies and Local Storage

We use cookies and localStorage to support essential platform functions and improve the user experience.

This may include:

  • keeping you logged in securely
  • remembering certain browsing activity or preferences
  • supporting referral or attribution tracking where applicable
  • improving browsing and trip planning features for users who are not logged in

We do not use third-party advertising cookies.

6. Your Rights

You may:

  • access the information associated with your account
  • update or delete your account information, trip profile, favorites, and saved content
  • opt out of marketing emails at any time
  • request deletion of your account and personal data by contacting hello@remotedominica.com

When an account is deleted, personal data will be removed within a reasonable period, except where certain records must be retained for legal, accounting, or compliance purposes. Booking records may be retained in anonymized form where necessary.

7. Data Retention

We keep your account data for as long as your account remains active. Booking records may be retained for up to 3 years after the last transaction for financial, accounting, and compliance purposes.

8. Data Security

We take reasonable and appropriate measures to protect your information. This includes the use of encrypted connections (HTTPS), secure authentication systems, and secure third-party payment processing.

Sensitive operator verification materials, such as license photos, are stored securely and are only accessible to authorized platform administrators.

9. Children

Remote Dominica is not intended for individuals under the age of 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make significant changes, we may notify users by email or through a notice on the platform. Continued use of the platform after such updates means you accept the revised policy.
