Intro
Rodney’s Rock is a quiet rocky beach on Dominica’s West Coast, near Jimmit/Mahaut.
It sits behind a building that often looks closed, so it feels empty most days.
It’s a great sunset stop if you’re staying nearby, and it can also be a nice snorkeling spot on calm days.
What you’ll do
- Access the beach from the main road and head down behind the building.
- Walk the rocky shoreline and choose a calm entry point.
- Snorkel along the rocks if visibility is good and the sea is calm.
- Time your visit for sunset if you’re in the area.
- Optional: walk a bit further to find a small cave area and watch for bats.
- Leave it as you found it and head back before it gets too dark.
Key tips
- This is a rocky beach: water shoes or sturdy sandals help a lot.
- Only snorkel when the sea is calm. If there’s surge or splash on the rocks, skip it.
- If you explore the cave area, keep it respectful (no loud noise, no touching wildlife).
- Bring a light if you think you’ll stay late.
- Skip it if the sea looks rough or the rocks are getting splashed.
