Intro
Number One Beach is a wild, volcanic black-sand beach that feels quiet and isolated. It’s less known than Batibou, with a simple ~5-minute walk to reach the shore. You’ll likely have a good chance of being alone, especially outside peak times.
What you’ll do
- Walk a short, simple trail to reach the beach.
- Relax on the black sand and enjoy a quieter atmosphere.
- Take photos of the dramatic coastline.
- Swim only if conditions look calm and safe.
- Explore the area lightly if you feel comfortable, then head back the same way.
Key tips
- Bring water and sun protection. This is a wild beach with no services.
- Wear footwear if the sand is hot or the path is rough.
- If the sea looks rough, keep it as a viewpoint/picnic stop instead of swimming.
- Pack out everything you bring.
