Intro
Morne Anglais is one of the most accessible summit hikes near Roseau, starting from the village of Giraudel. You begin high (around 640 m / 2,100 ft) and climb steadily to the summit (about 1,123 m / 3,684 ft). Expect mud and slippery footing often, plus patches of razor grass.
Quick facts
- Difficulty: Unknown
- Duration: Typically ~1.5–3 hours round-trip (conditions dependent)
- Cost: Unknown
What you’ll do
- Start near the antenna area in Giraudel and begin the steady climb.
- Push through wet, muddy sections and stay focused on footing.
- Watch for razor grass and keep skin covered.
- Reach the summit area for panoramic views when clouds cooperate.
- Descend the same way (often trickier than the climb when it’s muddy).
Key tips
- Wear long pants for razor grass and shoes with serious grip.
- Avoid right after heavy rain if you want less mud and safer footing.
- Go early for better chances of clear views (clouds roll in fast at altitude).
- Bring a light rain layer. This zone can be wet even when lower elevations are dry.
- If the trail turns into a slip-and-slide, turn back.
