Trafalgar Falls: How to Visit
Twin waterfalls 15 minutes from Roseau — viewing platform, scrambling route and nearby hot springs.
Trafalgar Falls
The Trafalgar Falls — locals call them "Mother" and "Father" — are the easiest world-class waterfall in Dominica. The trailhead is in the village of Trafalgar, 15 minutes by car from Roseau.
The viewing platform
A flat 10-minute path through botanical garden takes you to a wooden deck looking up at both falls together. This is wheelchair-accessible to within 50 m. National park fee: US$5.
Scramble to the pools
A 25-minute boulder scramble climbs to the base of either fall. The route is unmarked, slippery and not advised in heavy rain — go with a local guide first time. The "Mother" pool is wide and calm. The "Father" pool is fed by hot mineral water mixed with cold cascade — a natural hot/cold dip.
After the falls
- Wotten Waven hot springs are 5 minutes by road. Several family-run pools cost US$5–10.
- Papillote Tropical Gardens sits at the trailhead — book lunch ahead.
Tips
- Visit before 10 am to beat the cruise tour buses.
- Sturdy footwear is mandatory beyond the platform.
- Combine with Middleham Falls for a full waterfall day.
