Intro
Segment 13 is a north-coast crossing between Penville and Capuchin (Canna Heritage Park). It’s known for rugged coastline scenery, river crossings, and a few narrow sections where the ground can feel exposed. Recent hiker reports often call it “doable,” but conditions can change with rain and vegetation growth.
Quick facts
- Difficulty: 6/10
- Duration: 3.5–4 hours (conditions dependent)
- Cost: Trail Pass required for non-residents (confirm current pricing)
What you’ll do
- Start from Penville and climb out through farmland edges.
- Traverse higher ground with open views when the weather clears.
- Descend into greener sections and cross small rivers (including the Taffia River area).
- Continue toward the coast and finish at Capuchin (Canna Heritage Park).
- Grab a cold drink/food nearby after the hike if you’ve arranged transport.
Key tips
- Parts of the trail are narrow with steep drops. Move slowly on exposed sections.
- Wear shoes with grip and long pants (mud + plants).
- After rain, footing gets trickier. Use a stick if you like extra stability.
- The trail is generally followable, but a guide can add safety and local context.
We haven’t explored the full Waitukubuli National Trail yet. A full end-to-end outing is planned during 2026 so we can update our on-the-ground notes (conditions, access, real timings). If you want to prepare an expedition for one segment or multiple segments, please fill out our form and we’ll connect you with guides based on the sections you want to do.
