Galion view point

A little known viewpoint above the Soufriere and Scotts Head area, worth the detour. Reach it on foot by the trail climbing from the main road here: 15.225122, -61.360971, or by car through Soufriere and around the back of Morne Patates.

The road ends at Galion, and so does the traffic. The village sits off every standard tourist route, which is exactly why the view from the top feels like something you found rather than something you queued for. Three ways up, depending on whether you are walking, hiking or driving.

As a detour off National Trail segment 1

Coming out of the forest you land on a bend in the road with a bench. North keeps you on the trail. West drops you towards Galion. Walk to the viewpoint and keep going, the path brings you back down to the Soufriere to Scotts Head road.

This is the best option if you want to loop segment 1 and leave your vehicle at Scotts Head.

On foot from the Soufriere road

The track runs up to Galion with about 200 metres of climb. Fairly manageable, and it gets you there without driving around. The greener and sportier way up.

By car

Head up through Soufriere and around the back of Morne Patates. About six minutes.

Key tips

Go for the walk up if you have the legs for it, the drive skips the best part. Bring water, there is nothing to buy up there. People here do not see many visitors passing through. A greeting goes a long way, and you may end up in a conversation you did not plan for. This is a village, not a viewpoint with a car park. Keep it quiet and take your rubbish back down.
